What a coincidence that I have landed here after getting this message on twitter - http://twitter.com/#!/ZubairZCS/status/6299780351262720
I'd like to clarify that there was no narrow or cynical interpretation by me. I only meant to prove/show that lobbying was not "illegal" in India, even though it "risks" narrow and cynical interpretations. The interpretation, which surely is narrow and cynical, was given as an "example" on how lobbying or Public Affairs can be interpreted cynically by some people. They don't reflect my personal view.
Thanks and Regards,
Rahul aka Pagal Patrakar :)Rahulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02458545108184191805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7537489380457243489.post-32035039427388320132010-11-20T18:33:44.027+05:302010-11-20T18:33:44.027+05:30londonsen, thanks for your comment you're righ...londonsen, thanks for your comment you're right on the money. lobbying/advocacy is an essential part of the democratic process in the sense that it helps articulate private interests that must cope with public policy.Rajiv N Desaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04886761100825959265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7537489380457243489.post-55330788802630763042010-11-20T18:29:47.511+05:302010-11-20T18:29:47.511+05:30vikas, what's written on the ipan website refe...vikas, what's written on the ipan website refers to the work that i did in helping the various clients mentioned fight repressive norms of doing business in a reforming india. i founded and ran ipan from dec 1987 to jan 2005. the blogger's interpretation is narrow and cynical. in fact, in india, even today, the government and its various agencies still pose an obstacle to the conduct of an open and transparent business. the change that liberalization has wrought is minor: from being control freaks and rent extractors, bureaucrats and politicians have become crony capitalists and rent extractors. i refer you my book, indian business culture, (butterworth heinneman, 1999) for an exposition of the work i did on behalf the clients such as star tv, the soaps and toiletries manufacturers association, et al.Rajiv N Desaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04886761100825959265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7537489380457243489.post-74991315776309713512010-11-20T13:54:01.546+05:302010-11-20T13:54:01.546+05:30What's your view on the way this blogger has i...What's your view on the way this blogger has interpreted a para on IPAN's website - http://blog.fakingnews.com/2010/11/radia-barkha-peepli-live/Vikasnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7537489380457243489.post-42309112210882651982010-11-20T13:20:59.101+05:302010-11-20T13:20:59.101+05:30Beautifully written post and a very serious issue ...Beautifully written post and a very serious issue here.

The real scandal here is the lack of a transparent lobbying and advocacy platform. Lobbyists are aligned, advocates have their point of view but without them there is no substance to any public discourse.

Or, the real scandal here is the lack of credible intermediaries who will help in the process of finding common ground.

Policy cannot continue to be created in silos, that destroys the very fabric of freedom and democracy. A lobbying/advocacy strategy, (even if it needs a bill, a law - such as the companies act etc.), is a necessary step to creating this layer of democracy.Aanteladdahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14885462800690439728noreply@blogger.com
